city. to give you that context, there are a little over 200,000 parcels, making up 31,000 acres of land in the city, that's excluding the streets which of course the city also controls. so, of those parcels, 2000 of them are in ownership by the city of san francisco. that's almost 6,000 acres, actually it's a little more than 6,000 acres. that means we have ownership of 20% of the acreage within the city and county of san francisco. we also own land far beyond the city. i'll get into that in a bit. but 92,000 acres of land is owned outside of the county. so, our portfolio is not only diverse, it's vast. so, that's speaking to the land mass that we own when we talk about the buildings that we control, we have over 1,100 separate buildings over seven counties. that's totaling about 48 million square feet of improvements throughout that entire portfolio. and interestingly, 85% of that 48 million square feet is controlled by seven different departments. so, the majority -- and you see the pie c

you know, when the city economy is weak, that is what the trigger was put in for. there's clearly a reason as to why the city had to reduce this -- for the school district. but i think the emphasis behind where the supplemental came from as we ask the school district how are you going to fund these programs going into the future i hope we have a real conversation next year, as our city economy looks better and our city economy grows as to whether we're going to pull the trigger again on prop h. i think that in last year, when we pulled the prop h trigger to me it had made sense because we didn't have a good budgetary forecast of what revenues were coming in. as the month of june was closing it looked more and more optimistic. as we look at the budget picture now i think many of us asked why did we pull the trigger last year and that was the reason why i introduced what i thought was a modest fundamental in the school district. overall regardless of your position i'm excited that we're engaging in a robust discussion of what it means to partner and support with our

how do we -- the city, maintain a committee of able and committed members? as it stands the committee is all volunteer. the workload as of now are far too labor intensive to be sustained by a volunteer board. so as you just suggested perhaps staggering terms would be an excellent idea. but this is just one issue. the officers have collectively identified a number of issues and large-scale questions, but i believe we're at a point that some changes need to be made. first the committee need goes through some major changes such as do the standards of care continue to make sense at this time? they did at one time. but it might not make sense anymore and how can we as a committee without teeth enforce standards of care? how can we expect shelters to meet standards of care when they are unfunded? and what is a just penalty for non-compliance? certainly it doesn't make sense to fine somebody for not having enough money. so my purpose again is not to [pr-erpbt/] present frustration, but suggest a change and the committee will need the support of this committee going
how do we -- the city, maintain a committee of able and committed members? as it stands the committee is all volunteer. the workload as of now are far too labor intensive to be sustained by a volunteer board. so as you just suggested perhaps staggering terms would be an excellent idea. but this is just one issue. the officers have collectively identified a number of issues and large-scale questions, but i believe we're at a point that some changes need to be made. first the committee need goes...
